The most beautiful things in life are not something we can see or touch, we feel them

The most beautiful things in life are not something we can see or touch, we feel them. A touch, a hug, the magic at a glance or just “How are you?”. All this is part of the formula for true happiness, which is no more than the sum of all the things that we cannot see with our eyes. Together, these flowers plant in the garden of the soul.

However, experts in emotion and behavioral psychology tell us that we  often lose our natural ability to experience the small, simplest form of happiness. In fact, humans are the only creature capable of exaggerating their  suffering  through distorted and negative thoughts.

Therefore, true happiness is invisible. We can not see or touch it, but it can be felt, because it lies in the energy that radiates from the positive bonds we share with everything that means something to us.  The most beautiful things in life are all around us, but they cannot be owned or manipulated. They deserve to be respected as something sacred.

For love does not rule and does not submit. Love  must be created and renewed every day, just like true friendship, the affection of a child or how we love a pet. What we give and what we receive cannot be touched; it is the whispering of our emotions.

The beautiful things we do not always see

Beautiful things have always been there, all around us. But we can not always spot them, because usually we see through a large, foggy filter built up of routines, automation and reflection, mechanical movements and a limited intuition, which may seem to have lost its connection to our emotions.

Rick Hanson is a California neuropsychologist known for his books such as  Hardwiring Happiness and  Buddha’s Brain.  In his books, he reveals that the brain does not know how to be happy, but can only be guided by rewards.

From the moment we are born and throughout our childhood, we pursue a wonderful pursuit of rewards. But the rewards we are looking for are so basic and simple that we forget the inherent joy they gave us as we grow older.

Only children know how to truly enjoy the present, the here and now. Dreams in themselves are enough to satisfy them. A walk, a game, a discovery, a hug or someone who says “I’m proud of you.” are the best forms of gifts for the childish mind. They value these invisible gifts that nurture their hearts.

As we grow, the pursuit of reward becomes increasingly complex. We can only be happy if we have a good job, have a  partner  or when others value us. The mind loses its innocence, and we get stuck in our own insecurity and frustration.

Hanson emphasizes the need to make contact with one’s own happiness. To cope with this, we must reprogram the brain and utilize its neuroplasticity. You have to change your mind, your behavior and feel new  emotions  to shape reality. Because all the beautiful things are still there, invisible and intangible. You just have to know how to feel them.

Look inward to find the invisible things within you

To understand ourselves a little better as a species, it is always interesting to learn about neuropsychology. The brain develops based on negative experiences, because this is how it can learn to survive, because  our ancestors had to deal with very difficult situations.

This can help us understand that we are programmed to focus on the negative aspects of life. But it is time to move on. Since we have managed to survive the dangers as a species, it is time to look ahead and learn to be happy. Because the next step in our development is consciousness.

Let us develop a more intuitive awareness of emotions, reciprocity, respect and empathy. Let us learn to become aware of the beautiful things that surround us, so will be able to grow with them, take care of them and stimulate them. We must allow ourselves to be happier, since we have already learned to be strong.

Steps to develop awareness and open your eyes to what is inside

We are experts in concerns, in seeing the disadvantages and in doubting our own abilities. We focus so much on this abyss of negativity within us that we go through the day with our  eyes  closed. We are blind to both the world and ourselves, while groping around in search of happiness.

  • It’s time to turn on the light inside you and turn down thoughts like “maybe”, “this is not for me” and “I’m afraid of that”.
  • When you are released from your inner prison, you will rise as the brave creature you are and finally look beyond without fear, strain or filters created by  negativity.
  • Stick to the here and now and look for daily rewards, as children do: the taste of a new food, the joy of making a new friend, a walk, a smile, of making eye contact with someoneā€¦
  • Enjoy the little things  you see around you, because if you put them together, they make up the whole universe.

Slow down and enjoy them, for this is where you will find true happiness, in these small, invisible and simple things. Above all, remember that happiness is not something you find at a stroke of luck, it is something that is built up through the little things that happen every day, which we usually overlook.
