We Do Not Enjoy What We Actually Have And Overestimate What We Lack

When we spend a lot of time thinking about what we do not have, we forget to enjoy what we actually have. We believe that what we lack is much better than what we already have.
We do not enjoy what we actually have and overestimate what we lack

One of our biggest problems is that we do not enjoy what we actually have and overestimate what we lack. Taking people or situations we may miss later for granted is common. Even if our goals stem from what we lack, it is a mistake to create a need for something we do not really need.

Sometimes we make the mistake of referring to almost everything we do not have as a need, and to what we could really enjoy, as people, emotions or situations, as a commitment. And so we miss real events because we prefer to fantasize, perhaps because what we fantasize about is often simpler than real life.

Usually we do not enjoy what we actually have. This is a pattern that some people unfortunately experience most of the time. Some experts in the field have even talked about “missing piece syndrome” to refer to the constant fixation we experience for what we do not have.

Stop idealizing and start enjoying life

It is reasonable and logical to reach one goal and start thinking about the next. The problem comes, however, when at the same time we do not enjoy what we have. That’s the key. The present moment, whether we like it or not, is all we have, and that is the secret to truly living.

Not settling down is an inherent tendency in humans, but it does not have to make your life bitter. On the other hand, motivation is important and even instinctive. This does not have to be negative. But if we combine chronic deviance with the idealization of what we do not have, we can fall into a pit of dissatisfaction and end up creating parallel realities.

Idealization often deceives us. We long for something because we think we will feel better when we have it. However, we cannot know for sure what a situation will be like until we live in it. Idealization is giving something a value in the blind, which often does not correspond to reality afterwards. Being aware of all this is the first step to enjoying every day of your life.

We must become aware of what we have, what we are and enjoy what life gives us. We must be careful about what we seek and want. There are no perfect situations, only those we place in our minds. And that is where idealizing what we do not have, what other people have, and everything we lack comes into the picture.

The road to hell is paved with poor attention

We do not enjoy what we actually have because we are not very attentive. Knowing what we should value is the first step to valuing it. Paying attention to the right things opens a window for well-being. Someone who knows how to enjoy what they have around them has learned the true essence of life.

Appreciating and appreciating what we actually have is fundamental to meeting both our needs and the needs of those around us.

The following ancient story teaches us the reason why we often live focused on superficial pleasures that we cannot achieve, while missing out on all the positive aspects of our existence.

A little story about enjoying what we actually have

In an English castle, there was a rule that said tourists should not pay an entrance fee to visit it. It attracted most of the tourists who came there. Once they were inside the castle, it was just a condition of not paying for the visit. The tourists had to walk around the castle with a spoon full of sand in their mouths. If they did not lose as much as a grain of sand during the trip, their visit would be free. All the visitors enthusiastically accepted the challenge and walked around the castle.

As a result, most visitors did not pay for the entrance. But they paid a much higher price: not being able to appreciate anything inside the castle. None of the visitors who took the tour with the spoon full of sand in their mouths saw the inside of the castle, its valuable paintings, nor the architecture. This is because they had only been concentrating on the spoon with the sand in their mouth.

Do not be like the visitors. Do not think about what you are missing and start enjoying what you already have!
